Do you know your Ayurvedic Body type – Dosha ?
Vata, Pitta and Kapha, all three doshas are present with varying degrees. You typically have one or more dominant doshas which make up how we act, look, and feel. Ayurveda combines the elements of nature and are reflected in the doshas. Even though I like to keep it simple, Ayurveda is a very ancient classic system made up of five elements. Air is everywhere there is movement, when you take a breath you ingest air. Fire is anywhere there is heat, forest fire, spicy foods, hormones are heat. Water is present in rivers and 80% of our body is made up of water. These elements earth, water, fire, wind and space make up everything external, the seasons, time of day, and internal, your body, the food you eat and your thoughts.
Vata: Air and Ether, mid-autumn to early winter
Loves hot yoga, active, always going somewhere, especially drawn to the sun, seeking new experiences, confusion at times with a tendency to skip meals, have digestive issues, drier, delicate skin and anxious behavior when out of balance.
Pitta: Fire and Water, late spring to early autumn
Trailblazer, passionate, skeptic at times, prefers warmth not heat which resides and gives color to skin when they overheat, possible freckles with a tendency for sensitive, inflamed at times, cranky skin and behavior when out of balance.
Kapha: Earth and Water, mid-winter to early spring
Goes with the flow, reliable with consistent energy levels, resistant to change at times, needs stimulation and their routine shaken up. Skin is cool yet smooth, congested with a tendency for sluggish skin and behavior when out of balance.
Vata
Balanced: Creative, loves excitement and new experiences, will receive a more restful sleep when balanced.
Out of Balance: Dry hair and skin, prone to worry, scattered, sensitive to noise.
Vatas like to think outside the box and have a million ideas running around in their heads. Slowing things down a bit and perhaps establishing some sort of routine may be helpful at times.
Pitta
Balanced: Organized, bright complexion, strong digestion, precise and direct
Out of Balance: Angry skin, inflammation, cannot tolerate hot weather well, eyes get easily tired and don't forget to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes against the sun.
Pittas like to take on a lot of responsibility and struggle with work/life balance until it is too much and then they need to stop, step back, chill out and rest.
Kapha
Balanced: Strong, bold, thick hair, patient, loyal and grounded.
Out of Balance: Sleep is excessive, congested skin and resistant to change, slow to get up and go.
Kaphas want to ensure everyone is OK and forget to take care of themselves. They need to find a type of exercise they like and get out and go. Their home is their castle.
